Recently, FPT IS successfully hosted the inaugural event of the \u201cThe Next\u201d workshop series at FPT Tower, with the theme \u201cGoing Global.\u201d The event brought together senior leaders from 30 large enterprises.\u00a0<\/b><\/p>\n

Globalization is an objective for many Vietnamese businesses. However, this journey is challenging with numerous problems regarding resources, customers, roadmaps for development, and position enhancement within the global value chain. During the first workshop of \u201cThe Next\u201d series, FPT and business leaders shared multi-dimensional insights and invaluable experiences drawn from their own globalization journeys.<\/span><\/p>\n

During her opening remarks, Ms. Bui Nguyen Phuong Chau, FPT IS Chief Operations Officer, stated, \u201cOn the 36-year journey of development, FPT has been fortunate to meet many invaluable mentors and partners, which has significantly accelerated our progress and allowed us to accumulate extensive experience in globalization. FPT wishes to be a trusted partner for Vietnamese enterprises, not just in digital transformation but also in business strategy, culture, and governance. We hope this workshop provides an opportunity for open and honest sharing of real-world experiences on the path to globalization.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Ms. Chau emphasized three critical lessons that FPT has learned over 25 years of going global: intense international competition is essential for cultivating a top-tier team, compliance with international standards and identifying a successful globalization model is crucial to penetrate foreign markets.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam recalled the FPT going-global pioneers with the spirit of “going despite knowing nothing”.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

At the workshop, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam, a Founding Member and Advisor to FPT Corporation, who took responsibility for FPT\u2019s initial global ventures, shared real stories of both success and failure in the software export journey. He recalled the FPT going-global pioneers with a spirit of \u201cgoing despite knowing nothing,\u201d and how they grew through their experiences in the global market. Drawing from FPT’s experiences in the early days of “going global”, Mr. Nam noted self-belief is a key determinant of success. With today\u2019s technological advancements, globalization can be achieved from anywhere, without the need to physically go abroad, thanks to global connectivity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Duong Quoc Tuan – Chairman of Austdoor Group shared two lessons from his company’s globalization journey.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Mr. Duong Quoc Tuan, Chairman of Austdoor Group, recounted how business trips in the 2010s to the U.S. sparked his company\u2019s globalization ambitions. After a decade of preparation, Austdoor made its first mark in the international market with successful export to the U.S during the recent COVID-19 pandemic. He summarized two key lessons from his company’s globalization story: \u201cTo go global, first, leaders must have a global mindset, and second, they must prepare for expertise, human resources, and governance.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phu, Chairman of Sunhouse Group, highlighted that the biggest challenge for his company in the early days of approaching foreign markets was competing with Chinese goods.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

Discussing challenges of going global, Mr. Nguyen Xuan Phu, Chairman of Sunhouse Group, stated the biggest challenge for his company in the early days of approaching foreign markets was competing with Chinese goods. Sunhouse quickly seized opportunities to reach American customers during the U.S-China trade war. Recognizing China\u2019s vast supply chain and cost-saving techniques, Sunhouse strategically partnered with Chinese companies to learn and enhance competitiveness. \u201cWe\u2019ve drawn three major lessons for globalization. Firstly, we must standardize products and processes to international standards. Secondly, we must master the global supply chain. Finally, don’t be afraid to learn as our customers can teach us invaluable lessons,\u201d shared Mr. Phu.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The workshop also featured discussions among guests from major companies like Viet Tiep Lock, Canifa, Garment 10, Son Ha, European Plastic, Ho Guom Group, and Pha Le Plastics, who shared practical insights and experiences in the global marketplace.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

After open discussions, Mr. Nguyen Thanh Nam emphasized: \u201cVietnamese businesses should learn from one another. This embodies the spirit of community solidarity.\u201d He summarized the key takeaways from the workshop: the importance of the spirit \u201cgoing despite knowing nothing\u201d, cultural integration, participation in the global supply chain, and the solution for effective business operation and management. He also underscored Vietnam\u2019s favorable political and economic environment, urging Vietnamese enterprises to seize these advantages to accelerate their globalization progress and strengthen their positions on the international arena.<\/span><\/p>\n
