In Vietnam, Hanoi is classified as an AI Advancer, while Ho Chi Minh City falls into the AI Adopter category. Leading cities in the AI Leader group include Amsterdam, Barcelona, and Beijing. The application of AI in smart city development primarily addresses core urban challenges such as traffic management, public safety, and urban planning, helping cities operate more efficiently and sustainably.

FPT commits to partnering with Vietnam in advancing smart city development

Mr. Son emphasized: “Vietnam is presented with a significant opportunity, grounded in the ‘Four Pillars’ of national decrees, policies promoting science and technology, and sustainable smart city development. From FPT’s perspective, the transformations at this stage should follow a ‘triple transformation’ model: Digital – Green/ESG – AI/Smart, leveraging strategic technologies such as AI, IoT, Blockchain, Big Data, and Cloud to collect, analyze, and transform data from individuals, communities, businesses, and government into value across urban planning, construction, and operations for all stakeholders.”

A prime example is the Digital Twin model – a virtual replica of a city – constructed through planning and design phases and enhanced during construction. Historical or generated data (as in HBIM) are integrated and refined through City Information Modelling (CIM), which combines 3D GIS with BIM/HBIM. This digital model can be vividly experienced via VR (Virtual Reality), AR (Augmented Reality), mobile applications, or any smart interface. The solution allows urban planners, stakeholders, and citizens to interact with and explore the smart city model before real-world implementation, while also contributing to cultural and heritage preservation through the digitalization of tangible and intangible assets, festivals, and traditional spaces during urban development.

In addition, AI enables the analysis of traffic, energy, air quality, and residents’ lifestyle data to propose optimal design solutions – ranging from energy-efficient lighting systems and green space planning to 3D simulations of building performance, urban infrastructure, and public spaces.

Currently, FPT is developing a comprehensive technology solution ecosystem, partnering with the Government and local authorities to advance smart and sustainable urban development in Vietnam.
