Digital transformation of the Nghe An – Nghe Tinh Soviet museum: When technology continues the story of history

Key Highlights

  • A rapid 30-day implementation that delivered the project ahead of schedule by 5 days
  • More than 46,000 valuable documents and artifacts entering a “digital preservation forever” journey
  • Over 23,000 original revolutionary archives securely “frozen” and preserved in the digital environment

Project Overview

In its mission to preserve historical memory and revive revolutionary heritage sites that educate future generations, the Nghe An – Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum partnered with FPT (with akaVerse serving as the core implementation unit) to execute the “Digitalization of documents and artifacts 2025” project.

The project applied FPT Culture Tech – FPT’s pioneering digital heritage technology ecosystem – combining two cutting-edge technologies: 3D Laser Scanning and 3D Photogrammetry to faithfully recreate the form and historical value of artifacts in the digital environment.

After only 30 days of intensive implementation, the project’s core components were successfully completed, opening a new chapter for sustainable preservation while eliminating geographical barriers and bringing the heroic flow of history closer to the public.

Customer

The Nghe An – Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum (located in Vinh City, Nghe An Province) is considered a “sanctuary of history” – preserving, protecting, and promoting the value of more than 46,000 valuable documents and artifacts. Among them are over 23,000 original archives associated with the revolutionary movement of 1930-1931 and the resilient Nghe Tinh Soviet movement, recognized as priceless national treasures.

Beyond its role as a repository of historical artifacts, the museum serves as a vital “red address” that inspires patriotism and revolutionary traditions among students, researchers, and visitors from across the country.

Challenges

Despite possessing a vast historical treasure, the Nghe An – Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum faces an invisible enemy: time. Most of its valuable artifacts – especially fragile materials such as raw paper and fabric – are continuously deteriorating due to the harsh tropical monsoon climate and the lingering impacts of war. Many rare original archives are at serious risk of degradation and fading over time.

Facing this urgent challenge, the museum’s management established a strategic objective for 2025: prioritize the digitization of historically significant or highly vulnerable artifacts and permanently preserve them in the digital space.

This is not merely a temporary preservation solution, but a critical first step in a comprehensive digital transformation roadmap toward building a future “Digital Museum” – one that removes physical limitations and leverages VR/AR technologies to recreate immersive historical experiences for future generations.

Solutions

To comprehensively solve the preservation challenge without affecting the original condition of the artifacts, FPT and the akaVerse expert team introduced the FPT Culture Tech digital heritage ecosystem – a perfect convergence between respect for history and advanced technology:

• High-precision 3D laser scanning technology

Captures the complete structure and surface details of artifacts with millimeter-level accuracy. This technology enables remote measurement and scanning while completely eliminating the risk of physical damage caused by direct contact.

• Ultra-high-resolution 3D photogrammetry technology

Uses multi-angle photography to realistically reproduce colors, textures, and even the marks left by time on artifacts within a 3D environment. The completed 3D models allow viewers to freely rotate and explore artifacts in 360 degrees from perspectives never before possible.

• Standardized centralized digital database

All scanned data is categorized, standardized, and securely stored on cloud infrastructure. This creates a valuable digital knowledge repository that supports efficient research and academic study without requiring physical interaction with original artifacts.

Results

Despite the pressure of workload and strict technical requirements, the project delivered highly impressive outcomes:

• Rapid project delivery

The project was officially completed, accepted, and handed over within only 30 days – 5 days ahead of the original schedule – demonstrating the exceptional execution capabilities of the technology team.

• Permanent preservation

Core revolutionary artifacts and historical archives were successfully “digitally frozen,” ensuring absolute safety against weather conditions and the effects of time.

• A launchpad for the future

The achievements of the 2025 implementation established a strong foundation for integrating VR/AR technologies and gradually transforming the remaining archive of more than 46,000 artifacts from a “static space” into a dynamic, immersive digital environment.

Value delivered

The digitalization project at the Nghe An – Nghe Tinh Soviet Museum stands as a vivid demonstration of FPT’s mission to “Create Digital Memories”. By applying modern technology in service of traditional cultural values, the project reinforces a powerful message: heritage never becomes outdated – it simply needs to be empowered by technology to continue living eternally in the digital era.

The FPT Culture Tech solution – already proven through successful implementations at Binh Phuoc museum and the Southern Central Office special national relic site – is ready to continue accompanying provinces and cities nationwide in accelerating heritage digital transformation and preserving the historical soul of Vietnam for future generations.
