FPT and Huu Nghi Hospital complete EMR implementation – Moving toward a paperless hospital model
After nearly a year of preparation, Huu Nghi Hospital has officially accepted and put into operation its Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system – a significant milestone in its digital transformation journey toward building a smart, paperless hospital model. The solution, jointly implemented with FPT, not only modernizes the hospital’s management and patient care processes but also underscores FPT’s commitment to partnering with the healthcare sector in delivering safe, sustainable, and effective digital solutions.
Huu Nghi Hospital officially launches Electronic Medical Record system
On the afternoon of September 19, Huu Nghi Hospital held a ceremony to officially accept the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) software system, with the participation of Dr. Mai Thi Nu – Head of Healthcare IT Management (Department of Science, Technology and Training, Ministry of Health), the Hospital Board of Directors, and heads of departments. Representing FPT was Mr. Ngo Cong Canh – Delivery Director of Healthcare Sector, FPT IS, FPT Corporation.
Speaking at the event, Dr. Nguyen The Anh, Director of Huu Nghi Hospital, emphasized that the implementation of the EMR system is not merely a shift from traditional storage methods, but a comprehensive transformation in hospital management and patient care. This strategic step paves the way toward a smart hospital model operating on accurate, interoperable, and secure data platforms – putting patients at the center, shortening service time, improving treatment outcomes, and ensuring information security.
Dr. Mai Thi Nu recognized that the EMR software system developed and deployed by FPT is built on advanced technology, ensuring fast processing speed, high security, and seamless integration with both Health Insurance and the National Healthcare Database. Medical staff have also received comprehensive training to effectively operate and utilize the system.
The EMR system has been deployed at Huu Nghi Hospital
Since October 2024, the hospital has undertaken comprehensive preparations, including upgrading IT infrastructure, integrating digital signatures, establishing data backup mechanisms, and building a disaster recovery system. All data is managed under strict security protocols, ensuring information safety and full compliance with legal requirements. The EMR system is now applied to both inpatient and outpatient services, providing each patient with a unique QR identification code to minimize errors during treatment, while enabling doctors to access laboratory results and diagnostic imaging more quickly and accurately.
A unique QR code for each patient
Mr. Ha Huu M., a patient currently under treatment at the Department of Cardiology, Huu Nghi Hospital, shared: “The medical examination process at the hospital has now become much more convenient than before. Especially with the wristband containing a barcode, if anything happens, doctors can simply scan it to instantly know my medical condition and prescribe the appropriate treatment.”
Alongside the EMR rollout, Huu Nghi Hospital has also introduced the Huu Nghi eHealth application, which allows patients to book appointments, track their medical records, reduce waiting times, and enhance their overall care experience. According to Dr. Nguyen The Anh, Director of Huu Nghi Hospital, the adoption of electronic medical records is an inevitable trend in the digital transformation of the healthcare sector. However, it also requires significant investment in infrastructure and technology. The hospital has proactively upgraded and refined its systems to make the process increasingly convenient for both patients and medical staff, moving toward optimal, safe, and efficient operations.
Under the Ministry of Health’s roadmap aligned with Resolution 57-NQ/TW, 100% of hospitals nationwide are expected to complete EMR implementation before October 2025, with the ultimate goal of integrating electronic health records into the VNeID platform, enabling citizens to easily access and manage their personal health information. During this critical period, FPT’s project team has worked intensively to deploy and evaluate its FPT.EMR system at numerous hospitals and healthcare facilities across the country. In addition to the successful acceptance of the system at Huu Nghi Hospital, FPT continues to partner with many other institutions, contributing to the Ministry’s digital transformation agenda and supporting the development of a modern, smart, and sustainable healthcare system.
