FPT highlights semiconductor and AI potential at the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts
At the recent Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts, held as part of the 4th Global Conference of Overseas Vietnamese organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, representatives from FPT Corporation shared insights on semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI).
Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS and Chairman of FPT Semiconductor, participated in the discussion titled “Overseas Vietnamese and the development of high technology in Vietnam”. He joined experts and engineers with intensive experience in the semiconductor industry in the US, Japan and South Korea.
Regarding the potential of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, Mr. Hoa affirmed, “Vietnam has an opportunity to emerge as an advanced country if it integrates into the global semiconductor supply chain. This presents a chance for FPT and other Vietnamese semiconductor design and manufacturing firms. With over a decade of research, development, and involvement in the semiconductor field, we hold strong expectations for its future.”
Mr. Hoa noted that throughout the history of the semiconductor industry, several Asian countries with cultures similar to Vietnam’s, where chopsticks are commonly used, such as South Korea, Taiwan, and China, have achieved success in this field. He expressed hope that Vietnam will be the next country to make its mark in the global semiconductor history.

Drawing from his practical experience, Mr. Hoa acknowledged the remarkable qualities of the Vietnamese people, noting their diligence and hard work. He emphasized their strong passion for science, particularly in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He also noted that many renowned professors and experts in semiconductors are Vietnamese, making human resources a significant advantage for Vietnam in the global semiconductor supply chain.
“When businesses and countries invest in Vietnam, they need top-notch human resources. While newly graduated engineers can handle basic tasks, specialized tasks demand the expertise of experienced professionals. We need to develop professional training facilities to prepare tens of thousands of skilled individuals who can match international standards to ensure success,” affirmed Mr. Hoa.
Within the framework of the discussion, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van, Head of the AI Research Department at the AI Center of FPT Software (a member company of FPT Corporation), shared insights on Vietnam’s potential in the field of AI.
Ms. Van analyzed the rapidly growing global AI market. According to a survey by Gartner (the US), the AI software market is projected to reach $135 billion by 2025, with a compound annual growth rate from 14.4% in 2021 to 31.1% in 2025, outpacing the overall software industry growth. In Vietnam, the development and creation of AI products have been accelerating, with increasing applications across various fields, and growing involvement from large enterprises and government support.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hong Van, Head of AI Research Department, AI Center, FPT Software (a member company of FPT Corporation) shared insights on Vietnam’s potential in the field of AI.
“FPT is collaborating with leading global AI organizations such as Mila and Landing AI. We have developed a comprehensive AI curriculum for students from grade 1 to grade 12, created by Dr. Andrew Ng, one of the top 100 most influential people in AI. FPT has recently partnered with Nvidia to invest $200 million in building an AI Factory. These initiatives aim to advance our platforms, products, services, and solutions while providing Vietnamese youth with opportunities to study and work in the AI field,” stated Ms. Van.
Ms. Van also highlighted that Vietnam’s substantial young workforce, strong in natural sciences, especially mathematics, and known for their diligence and hard work, represents a significant advantage in AI development. She views the establishment of AI departments by international firms such as Grab, Cartrack, and thoes from Silicon Valley like DataXight, Murror, GotIt, and Aitomatic as a promising sign for the future of AI in Vietnam.
Experts and speakers at the Forum of Overseas Vietnamese Intellectuals and Experts commended FPT’s contributions. The forum provided a valuable opportunity for domestic experts to stay abreast of global trends in semiconductors and AI, while also allowing FPT experts to engage with overseas Vietnamese experts on strategies for national development, increasing investment from Vietnamese diaspora, and expanding the national innovation network.
