FPT IS accompanies provinces/cities to exploit data resources
To realize the goal of building the national databases, FPT Information System Corporation (FPT IS) has been working closely with multiple provinces/cities across the country to implement digital transformation projects, thereby making the most of data resources.
Exploitation of data resources – a springboard for economic development
Recently, at the Viet Nam – Asia DX Summit 2023, Deputy Prime Minister Tran Hong Ha emphasizes that digital resources are more than a “gold mine”, in fact, the limitless resources derived from thinking, creativity, and brain power that the world has been generating and exploiting. It is a new type of resources, i.e green resources, which can help us restore natural resources and generate breakthroughs in economic development”.
2023 is the year of “Creating and exploiting data to create new values” with the key tasks of digitalizing, building, connecting, and sharing data between ministries, departments, and provinces/cities; protecting personal data; exploiting and making use of data to serve the people and businesses. Accordingly, the Prime Minister – Chairman of the National Committee on Digital Transformation – has issued a key action plan for the Year of Digital Data.
As a leading IT firm in Vietnam with more than 20 years accompanying the Government to address many major problems of the country, FPT IS has been going with the national digital data strategy flow and achieving multiple major achievements.
At the seminar themed “Connecting and sharing data to develop digital government”, Mr. Nguyen Hong Hai – Deputy Director of Digital Government Solution Consulting Center, FPT IS – mentions the digital data project in Ho Chi Minh city, a major milestone that has affirmed FPT IS’ capacity in addressing data problems. Specifically, in 2014, FPT IS has accompanied Ho Chi Minh city to develop a reporting system that reflects the health status of businesses. Since the data sources were scattered and dispersed resulting in overlapping and incorrect data, FPT IS conducted a thorough evaluation from multiple perspectives, thereby successfully implementing a system integrating many different data sources.

After only 3 months, FPT IS successfully integrated and cleaned up data sources for Ho Chi Minh city, formulating an online reporting system on the health status of businesses in the area using data provided by agencies such as Department of Planning and Investment, Taxation, Treasury, Electricity… This system is the predecessor of the current Ho Chi Minh city’s data warehouse. Up to now, Ho Chi Minh city’s data warehouse has been integrated with 60 databases and continuously been updated, of which 40 databases have been constantly shared among different agencies.
Technologies to comprehensively address data problems for provinces/cities
As of 2023, FPT IS has been consulting and deploying specialized data solutions in more than 10 provinces/cities across the country, such as Lao Cai, Bac Giang, Can Tho, Tra Vinh, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, Dong Thap, Khanh Hoa…
FPT IS has been able to gain profound experience and in-depth understanding of the struggles of provinces/cities during the journey of accompanying provinces/cities to integrate and share data. Some typical challenges that provinces/cities often encounter include: Nearly half of the data needed for direction and administration is formed and managed by vertical industry systems; Lack of mechanism to allow provinces/cities to access and proactively exploit industry data warehouses to address their problems; Almost all data controlled by local authorities is inaccurate and ineffectively exploited, leading to unreliable data after collection; Lack of industry data standards, leading to the scattering of specialized software, causing difficulties in collection and exploitation.
Facing such issues, the demand for a “Make in Vietnam” solution that suits the needs of the provincies/cities has become greater than ever. To respond to such situation, FPT IS has developed the FPT data processing and integration platform – FPT.Fortuna. The solution is the answer to the problem of building state data warehouses at provinces/cities and specialized data warehouses, as well as promoting the building of smart city models.
FPT.Fortuna is an effective solution to integrate information and data from different sources so that users can use the necessary information and data in the most optimal and convenient way. With FPT.Fortuna, state agencies only need one employee to monitor the platform and more than an hour to export a report, instead of two full-time employees working for four days to process just 1GB of data.

FPT.Fortuna is exactly the “key” that helps FPT IS successfully conquer an important data project in Ho Chi Minh city. The solution has helped the city integrate data from different applications and platforms to build a centralized data warehouse that allows to store and exploit big data. In addition, the data integration platform for Ho Chi Minh city also helps the Department of Information and Communications of the city plan and redesign information architecture, moving towards building a shared data warehouse for the entire city, an important component of the smart city model.
From the successes achieved, in the coming time, FPT IS expects to continue to accompany and address the struggles on the journey of building a digital data strategy for provinces/cities across the country with technologies, contributing to enabling the goal of building the three pillars of Digital government, Digital economy, and Digital society in Vietnam.
