FPT IS attends the seminar on Semiconductors at the Vietnam – U.S. Trade Forum 2023
On the morning of November 21, attending the Vietnam – U.S. Trade Forum, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang – Director of FPT Semiconductor., JSC (FPT Semiconductor) – has spoken of FPT’s plans in the semiconductor chip market in Vietnam and the U.S.
With the theme of “Upgrade relationships – Relaunch businesses”, the Vietnam – U.S. Trade Forum is organized by the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam in collaboration with the American Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam, as well as the governments of the states of Oregon and Colorado, USA. The event focuses on discussing the prospects of the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the U.S. and its implications for economic, trade and investment cooperation between the two countries.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang – Director of FPT Semiconductor – speaks at the event.
At the in-depth discussion session themed “The cooperation between Vietnam and Oregon in the fields of semiconductors and agriculture”, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang – Director of FPT Semiconductor (under FPT Information System Corporation) – says, FPT currently owns 2 companies in the U.S. FPT’s strategy in this market is to develop AI technology and power management ICs. For the ICs, FPT has been focusing on two areas: Education and Design – Manufacturing.
Regarding Education, Mr. Quang emphasizes that the world has been short of semiconductor human resources. Vietnam is deemed to have great potential to develop human resources for the sector. As the matter of fact, the Government of Vietnam has recently issued a policy towards educating 50,000 semiconductor engineers.
“FPT has opened the first Department of Semiconductor and Microelectronics in Vietnam at FPT University and invites professors from Japan and Taiwan to involve into both consultation and teaching. The company has also developed a human resource education program framework based on U.S. standards, which is expected to educate 15,000 engineers by 2030 mainly in Hanoi and Da Nang. The engineers will be capable of working for both the domestic and the international markets”, said Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang.
The event is attended by more than 350 delegates from Vietnam and the U.S.
For the Design – Manufacturing area, FPT Semiconductor has won orders with a total of 70 million chips in the fields of medical equipment and electronic applications from customers in Taiwan, Korea and Japan. In 2022, FPT Semiconductor has designed and manufactured 3 power management IC families, and it is expected that there will be 7 new families by 2023. Of which, the first IC family for IoT products in the healthcare sector, that has been developed with the philosophy of “Make in Vietnam and Made by FPT” ICs and introduced to the market in 2022, has marked FPT Semiconductor’s name on the world’s IC technology map.
