FPT joins forces with Bac Giang to unlock semiconductor potential
On April 16, the People’s Committee of Bac Giang province organized a workshop themed “Current status and solutions for developing labor resources in the Semiconductor industry in Bac Giang Province”. Representative of FPT Corporation, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa – Chairman of FPT Semiconductor Joint Stock Company (FPT Semiconductor), cum Chairman of FPT Information System Corporation (FPT IS) attended the event and offered wide-ranging recommendations for Bac Giang to accelerate to catch the wave of the semiconductor industry.
The workshop was attended by leaders of the General Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Labour – Invalids and Social Affairs of Vietnam; representatives of the National Innovation Center, Ministry of Planning and Investment of Vietnam; leaders of Bac Giang province; and delegates from a number of universities, colleges and companies.
At the event, universities, colleges, businesses, and technology experts made presentations and exchanged ideas on researching and clarifying the needs for scale, structure, and characteristics of technical labor in semiconductor enterprises in Bac Giang province in particular and across Vietnam in general, which are associated with the value-added chain of techniques, technology in production, and technology improvement.
Universities, colleges, businesses, and technology experts made presentations and exchanged ideas at the workshop.
Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Mai Son, Standing Vice Chairman of Bac Giang Provincial People’s Committee explained that Bac Giang province has been witnessing the explosive growth of the semiconductor industry thanks to its strategic position and development potential. To revolutionize this sector, the province plans to focus on building a high-quality workforce that meets the requirements of the market and technology, and at the same time, to strengthen cooperation between training organizations, businesses and researchers to create an advanced learning and research environment that truly reflects the trends and requirements of the semiconductor industry.
Sharing Mr. Son’s opinions, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa – Chairman of FPT Semiconductor and Chairman of FPT IS (a subsidiary of FPT Corporation) emphasized that Bac Giang’s prime geographical location, its determination and readiness to seize new development opportunities, and its provision of favorable working conditions to domestic and foreign partners make it a potential cradle of labor resources in the semiconductor sector. Bac Giang is a land of talents, among the top in the country in the field of education with more than 1,000 national standard schools and with STEM teaching methods adopted in high schools. Students who are good at math and receive STEM-based education will be a potential workforce for the semiconductor industry in the future. Besides, Bac Giang’s economy in the first quarter of 2024 ranked first in the country. The province has 3 large enterprises investing in semiconductors and 5 electronics industrial clusters. Therefore, Bac Giang has a solid foundation to make the semiconductor industry evolve and become a wellspring of semiconductor labor resources for companies and industrial parks.
Mr. Tran Dang Hoa shared his thoughts at the event.
According to Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, to quickly grasp the opportunity to turn into one of the leading provinces in semiconductors in Vietnam, Bac Giang will need to: Now and always prepare human resources for semiconductor chips to cater for the needs of overseas companies coming to Bac Giang to open factories; attract domestic and foreign investors to build new semiconductor plants in the province to localize the supply chain; and establish a supply chain and warehouse center geared towards a regional and global distribution network thanks to its favorable geographical location and open policies. On that journey, FPT wishes to take advantage of the strengths and experience of many years of cooperation with Bac Giang to exploit the potential of semiconductors in the province.
