Overview of the seminar

Attending the seminar, representatives of the Department of Information and Communications of Ba Ria – Vung Tau province were Mr. Nguyen Huu Hien, Director of the Department of Information and Communications, Mr. Le Viet Trung, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications and Chairman of the seminar, along with the leaders of institutions and organizations on information security at the local level and several southern provinces and cities

At the event, experts discussed several topics such as: ensuring information security and data security during the digital transformation process in the province; risk of account leaks – identification and prevention; comprehensive solutions against ransomware; information security landscape and solutions of client units such as Viettel, VNPT, DTG; and strategies for ensuring information security in the province’s digital transformation. Additionally, solutions and information security services were proposed for the Department of Information and Communications.

As a leading provider of security services and solutions in Vietnam, FPT representative, Mr. Bui Thach Son, Head of Technical Security Group  at FPT IS, FPT Corporation gave a presentation on “Advanced Threat Protection System Against Ransomware” solution.

The wave of cyberattacks in Vietnam increased sharply in the early months of 2024, especially ransomware attacks targeting critical sectors such as finance, energy, and government. Many businesses remain complacent about cybersecurity, creating opportunities for these attacks. Typical events include attacks on VNDIRECT (March 2024), PVOIL (April 2024), and Vietnam Post (June 2024), which caused significant disruptions to the operations of these organizations. According to statistics from the Authority of Information Security, a total of 13,750 cyberattacks have been recorded since the beginning of 2023, with 2,323 incidents reported in the first three months of 2024 alone. The number of ransomware attacks in 2023 increased by 8.4% compared to the previous year, while APT (Advanced Persistent Threat) attacks saw a sharp rise of 55%.

“AI is becoming a powerful tool in cyberattacks, ranging from creating sophisticated phishing emails and fake websites to using deepfakes to manipulate users. AI can accelerate the process of identifying security vulnerabilities, helping hackers pinpoint weaknesses in systems. It is also employed to automate attacks such as DDoS and Brute Force, as well as to develop self-learning malware that evades security systems. Moreover, AI can analyze big data to steal sensitive information and create malicious chatbots to deceive users,” Mr. Son emphasized the power of Artificial Intelligence when utilized by hackers, he highlighted how the continuous evolution of malware driven by AI makes detection and prevention extremely challenging.

Mr. Bui Thach Son, Head of Technical Security Group at FPT IS, FPT Corporation gave a presentation on “Advanced Threat Protection System Against Ransomware” solution.

To effectively prevent ransomware, Mr. Son emphasized that organizations need to deploy a comprehensive security strategy including three key elements: People – Policies – Processes. Particularly, essential to build a security architecture based on the Zero-Trust model, assuming that all connections could be threats and strictly controlling access and verifying connections. Regular security awareness training will help employees identify and avoid threats from phishing and social engineering attacks. Organizations must also frequently update security patches for operating systems and system software to address vulnerabilities. Leveraging AI/ML technology in SOC operation service that FPT provides will help protect important systems and data, and detect threats early. In addition, implementing the 3-2-1 data backup rule ensures recovery capability in case of incidents. Managing the data lifecycle, applying appropriate access controls, and encrypting sensitive information are also crucial in safeguarding against ransomware.

During the sharing session, FPT’s experts also introduced FPT’s security ecosystem, including security products and services that FPT IS provides to customers, to provincial leaders and attending guests.Fpt Ba Ria Vung Tau 1734428827 Fpt Ba Ria Vung Tau 1 1734428830
