Chairman of FPT IS: “Vietnam and the U.S. have a lot of potential to develop the semiconductor sector”
Recently, in Hanoi, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa – Chairman of FPT Information System Corporation (FPT IS) – has attended the 6th U.S. – Vietnam Business Summit and discussed current tech trends and potential of the semiconductor sector.
The summit is jointly organized by the Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI), the American Chamber of Commerce in Hanoi (AmCham), and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce in Washington to promote trade and commerce activities between the two countries. The event is attended by the Deputy Prime Minister of Vietnam Mr. Tran Luu Quang, as well as a group of high-ranking ministry officials.
The guests at the discussion session themed “Removing bottlenecks in resource mobilization, production and business”.
At the discussion session themed “Removing bottlenecks in resource mobilization, production and business”, Mr. Tran Dang Hoa – Chairman of FPT IS – says, the U.S. has been the key market of FPT. Recently, FPT has announced a plan to invest 100 million USD with a resource pool of approximately 1,000 people in the U.S. by the end of this year, meanwhile, suggested that the U.S. government cooperate in fostering the semiconductor ecosystem in Vietnam. With continuous investments, FPT expects to create more than 3,000 jobs in 2028 and achieve a revenue of 1 billion USD from the U.S. market by 2030.
Regarding the semiconductor sector, Mr. Hoa emphasizes that Vietnam has been advantageous in terms of market as many U.S. companies and multinational corporations have been moving their production lines to Vietnam. As a result, this increases the demand for chips in Vietnam. Therefore, Vietnam needs to focus on and invest in educating semiconductor resources.
Mr. Tran Dang Hoa – Chairman of FPT IS – speaks at the event.
FPT’s goal is to educate 10,000 IC engineers by 2030. To do so, FPT University has opened the first Department of Semiconductor and Microelectronics in Vietnam and invites professors from Japan and Taiwan to involve into both consultation and teaching. FPT has also partnered with leading universities in the U.S., Taiwan, and Japan to implement their courses at FPT.
In particular, recently, FPT Semiconductor., JSC (FPT Semiconductor) has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Silvaco, a major tech partner from the U.S., to educate semiconductor talents and promote business in this promising sector.
FPT has also cooperated with Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC) of the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the U.S. Technology Expert Organization TreSemi to establish Vietnam Semiconductor Hub for Education (VSEH). The cooperation aims to promote the process of educating domestic semiconductor talents and sponsor semiconductor projects, creating conditions for IC design projects to be put into practice.
