FPT commits to accompanying Hanoi in developing the semiconductor industry
Attending the “Conference on Hanoi Investment Connection and Semiconductor Industry Development 2024″, FPT leaders shared experiences and solutions to encourage cooperation between companies in the semiconductor sector in Hanoi, which aimed to make Hanoi a “land” of semiconductor technology in Vietnam and on the globe.
Hanoi needs to quickly build a tailored investment attraction mechanism
The conference was jointly organized by Hanoi Investment, Trade and Tourism Promotion Center, Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, and Vietnam Software and IT Services Association (VINASA), and intended for establishing connections and stimulating investment and trading in the semiconductor industry, fostering the development of the sector and its ecosystem as well as the high-tech industry’s ecosystem in Hanoi.
Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa shared his views at the meeting.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, VINASA Chairman and FPT CEO, expressed that Capital Law No. 39/2024/QH15 identifies semiconductors as a priority field to draw strategic investors to the city and also an important legal basis to attract investment. Hanoi has more than 10 million people with special socio-economic appeal, which opens up favorable opportunities for the city to make its mark on the domestic and world map of technology and semiconductors yet requires Hanoi’s capability to timely exploit those chances.
Accordingly, actions that need to be taken by the city include: Build a tailored mechanism to attract investment; Develop a set of criteria to determine strategic investors eligible for preferential policies; Formulate a 10-year long-term strategy; Learn from experienced countries, especially those with ecosystems for training, supplying, and manufacturing electronic equipment in general and chips in particular.
According to Mr. Khoa, chip design and manufacturing being a rich land for small to large scale businesses necessitate Hanoi’s devotion of its resources, including finance, and potential to facilitating technology enterprises’ innovation and creativity.
FPT plans to accompany Hanoi in developing the semiconductor industry
At the plenary session of the event, Mr. Tran Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS cum Chairman of FPT Semiconductor, shared about the role of digital technology enterprises in Hanoi and the orientation to participate in the semiconductor industry.
Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS cum Chairman of FPT Semiconductor, shared his thoughts at the event
According to Mr. Hoa, Vietnam has many advantages in semiconductors development amid the gradual shifting of the semiconductor value chain to Southeast Asian countries. “Currently, Vietnam is on the list of 7 countries that are eligible for US support under the Chips Act to improve production and human resources training. We possess advantageous conditions, from a stable political system, favorable geographical location, rich raw material resources to abundant human resources in the field of engineering and technology. This is an important foundation for us to accelerate development in the industry.”
To play its part in the semiconductor sector, FPT has provided IC Design services since 2014, starting with the Japanese market. Currently, the company has about 100 domestic and 50 foreign engineers focusing on developing product lines related to Power Chips and IoT Chips, bringing value to both customers and the industry. FPT have received orders for approximately 70 million chips by 2025, serving customers in Taiwan, Korea and Japan in the fields of medical equipment and electronic applications.
In terms of human resource development, FPT University is cooperating with nearly 20 international universities to provide human resource training in the semiconductors industry, aiming to offer 50,000 – 100,000 talents in the sector by 2030.
Mr. Hoa shared directions and solutions to accompany Hanoi in developing the semiconductor industry.
“We hit the milestone of USD 1 billion in software export revenue and wish to replicate the achievement in the semiconductor field. As a pioneer in semiconductor chip design in Vietnam, we have set the goal of having 30,000 semiconductor employees by 2033, expending our major efforts in Power Chip, IoT Chip line development and putting products such as AI Chips as the next target. These are also our contributions to the goal of developing the semiconductor industry in Vietnam and the region”, said Mr. Hoa.
