FPT joins hands with Vietnam National Innovation Center and a U.S. Technology Expert Organization to establish Vietnam Semiconductor Hub for Education
On October 28, as part of the inauguration ceremony of Vietnam National Innovation Center (Hoa Lac campus) and the opening ceremony of Vietnam International Innovation Expo 2023 (VIIE 2023), Vietnam National Innovation Center (NIC), FPT Corporation, and the U.S. Technology Expert Organization – TreSemi have signed a cooperation agreement to establish Vietnam Semiconductor Hub for Education (VSHE) in the presence of Prime Minister Mr. Pham Minh Chinh, Minister of Planning and Investment Mr. Nguyen Chi Dung, as well as leaders of central agencies and the delegates attending the event.
The establishment of the VSHE is important to the development of the semiconductor sector in Vietnam, especially in the context that the semiconductor value chain is gradually shifting to Southeast Asian countries, while Vietnam has all the conditions and factors necessary for the development of the sector, such as a stable political system, favorable geographical location, abundant human resources in the field of technologies, and an increasingly developing digital infrastructure. The VSHE will also contribute to promoting the process of educating domestic talents in semiconductor and sponsor semiconductor projects, creating conditions for IC design projects to be put into practice. This will gradually realize the development orientation of the semiconductor sector in Vietnam, making Vietnam a trusted partner in the semiconductor ecosystem in the region and the world, elevating Vietnam’s position in the global value chain and contributing to modernizing the economy.

Specifically, the parties involved in the cooperation will contribute resources to help realize the goal of educating 50,000 semiconductor engineers according to the Project on developing high-quality tech resources for the Vietnamese semiconductor sector for the 2024 – 2030 period with vision to 2045, responsible by the NIC and the Vietnam Ministry of Planning and Investment under the direction of the Prime Minister. Besides, the parties also agree to sponsor 300 scholarships for the upskill training programs that are compliant with international standards for excellent students in the field of semiconductors at 20 leading universities in Vietnam, and provide production support (tapeout) for 13 excellent IC design projects in 2024. In addition, VSHE has already established partnerships with the world’s leading IC design software companies such as Cadence, Synopsys, Siemens, and Silvaco.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Truong Gia Binh – Chairman of FPT Corporation – says: “According to forecasts of global HR experts, by 2030 the semiconductor sector will lack 1,000,000 engineers. Vietnam has to seize the opportunities and capture such demand to rise in the global rankings both in terms of educational quality and supply of high quality resources for the sector. The establishment of VSHE under the cooperation of NIC, FPT, and TreSemi will be a launching pad for our country to realize the goal of educating 50,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030, at the same time, open up opportunities for potential IC design projects to be brought into practice”.
As part of the cooperation, FPT is committed to sponsoring costs for potential IC projects as well as sponsoring facilities, servers, infrastructure, online training programs, as well as consultants, teaching assistants for majors related to the semiconductor field that the VSHE focuses on.
Besides, the NIC is committed to actively supporting enterprises and start-ups in the field of electronics in general and semiconductor in particular in Vietnam to connect with the community of leading enterprises, corporations, and investment funds in the world. The cooperation with FPT Corporation, one of the leading IT firms in the field of semiconductors in Vietnam, and TreSemi, a U.S. Technology Expert Organization with a widespread network of highly competent semiconductor experts, shows the NIC’s determination in realizing the development orientation of the semiconductor sector in Vietnam to make Vietnam a promising destination, an important link in the production supply chain for the global semiconductor sector.

Also at the event, the Robotic process automation (RPA) solution (akaBot) by FPT Information System Corporation (FPT IS) has been honored and given the “Innovation Star Award” and “Top 4 Outstanding Exemplary Innovative Solutions” award by Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh.
At the exhibition area of the event, FPT demonstrates the company’s tech solution ecosystem themed “Developing new technologies – Towards comprehensive digital transformation”. The company has also presented the guests the achievements gained from the process of innovation that have recorded a large number of users and have been highly appreciated by global customers.
