FPT showcases capabilities at Vietnam–Italy forum on semiconductor and AI development

On the afternoon of May 29, 2025, the “Vietnam – Italy: Cooperation in developing the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industry” was held at the headquarters of the National Innovation Center (NIC) in Hoa Lac. The Forum was organized by NIC in collaboration with the Italian Embassy in Vietnam and the European Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The forum “Vietnam – Italy: Cooperation in developing semiconductor technology and artificial intelligence” took place recently in Hanoi.

The Italian Ambassador to Vietnam, His Excellency Marco della Seta, confirmed in his introductory remarks that two important technical pillars of the 4.0 industrial revolution are semiconductors and artificial intelligence (AI). He asserts that Vietnam’s innovative approaches, particularly in the areas of R&D development in the semiconductor industry and human resource training, demonstrate a clear and long-term vision. The ambassador underlined that Italy is prepared to accompany Vietnam because of its scientific and technological prowess, robust academic and research environment, and the presence of numerous multinational companies like STMicroelectronics, Infineon Technologies, Cisco, Micron Technology, and others.

According to Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, Director of NIC, the Forum is a strategic move to strengthen collaboration with Italy, one of the nations with a strong innovation environment. With the goal of spearheading the growth of the national innovation ecosystem, NIC is dedicated to serving as a liaison between the two nations’ universities, research institutions, and businesses, particularly in fields such as chip design, cutting-edge materials, and ground-breaking industrial solutions.

Leading companies and authorities in the two nations’ semiconductor and artificial intelligence domains, including STMicroelectronics, Cambridge Graphene Center, Italian National Research Council (CNR), Chips-IT Foundation, CamGraPhIC, FPT, InfraSen, LocaAI, and others, attended and gave presentations at the forum. In addition to focusing on academic and research potential, the talks opened up a wide range of avenues for public-private collaboration, enabling companies to establish long-lasting technology partnerships.

Within the framework of the event, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, Director of FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation shared a strategic perspective on Vietnam’s role in the global semiconductor value chain, as well as FPT’s development orientation in this field. As one of the first Vietnamese enterprises to design and commercialize integrated chips, FPT is affirming its leading position in the field of IC design. With a team of excellent engineers and core technology capabilities, FPT is pioneering in building “Make in Vietnam” chip design capacity, contributing to increasing the intellectual content in the country’s high-tech industry.

With the advantage of owning a systematic educational system from primary school to university, an extensive R&D network and global cooperation, FPT is gradually connecting domestic technology enterprises with leading international partners to accelerate the process of technology transfer, training high-quality human resources and jointly developing products “Make in Vietnam.”

“In particular, FPT also values the cooperative relationship with businesses and research institutes from Italy – a country with a philosophy of sustainable technology development, valuing innovation and a solid academic foundation. In the coming time, we hope to expand comprehensive cooperation with Italian partners in areas such as expert training, technology sharing, co-development of chip products, and building international standard design – testing centers in Vietnam. Furthermore, we hope to work with Italian partners to bring the most advanced technologies to Vietnam, serving the construction of international standard design – production – testing factories. This will be the foundation for Vietnam to position itself as an important link in the global semiconductor manufacturing value chain,” said Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang.

The forum “Vietnam – Italy: Cooperation in developing the semiconductor and artificial intelligence industry” has laid the first bricks for a strategic, long-term and substantive cooperation journey between the two countries. With the participation of big names such as STMicroelectronics, FPT, prestigious research centers and the support of government agencies of the two countries, the path to making Vietnam a center of technological innovation in the region and deeply participating in the global technology value chain is becoming clearer and closer than ever.
