FPT suggests the Government facilitate the development of semiconductor chips in Vietnam
On the morning of April 14, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his delegation has visited and worked with FPT University and FPT Software Co., Ltd. at Hoa Lac Hi-Tech Park, Thach That District, Hanoi. The visit has an important meaning for FPT Corporation in particular and the education and IT industry in general, demonstrating the Government’s interest in nurturing Vietnam’s high-tech talents, especially in the research, development, and production of chips (integrated circuits).
In the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has affirmed FPT’s position as a pioneering firm in digital transformation in Vietnam since 2016. Up to now, FPT has been present in 29 countries, being the digital transformation partner of hundreds of large corporations and organizations in the world. The company’s revenue derived from digital transformation in 2022 has reached over VND 7.3 trillion, achieving a growth rate of over 33%; while total sales from contracts signed with foreign clients has reached the milestone of 1 billion USD. FPT, along with other Vietnamese technology firms, has made an impressive progress, contributing to making Vietnam rise and become a bright spot in information technology in a number of fields.

Reporting to the Prime Minister and the delegation, FPT Chairman Mr. Truong Gia Binh says in 2022, for the first time, FPT has recorded sales from signed contracts in international markets equivalent to export revenue of pepper – a main export agricultural product of Vietnam. The company has achieved high growth in all international markets, contributing VND 7,112 billion to the State Budget.
Mr. Binh suggests that, with the existing background and potential, along with an abundance of high-tech human resources possessing prestigious certificates and degrees, this is about time to create a new attractiveness for Vietnamese ICT industry and draw further foreign investment. “With a population of 100 million people and experiencing the period of golden population, Vietnam can become the world’s technology education and training center. Vietnam has the potential to be in the top 5-10 in the world in terms of information technology, agriculture and tourism,” said Mr. Binh.
FPT Chairman Mr. Truong Gia Binh emphasizes that Vietnam is at a golden time to enhance attractiveness to draw further foreign investment.
On behalf of FPT Information System Co., Ltd. (FPT IS), Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang – Director of FPT Semiconductor JSC (FPT Semiconductor) – says the establishment of FPT Semiconductor is an important move to realize the dream of producing semiconductor chips of many generations of Vietnamese fathers since 1979. In 2022, FPT Semiconductor has designed and produced 3 power chip families and signed the first contract to supply chips with a quantity of 25 million chips for the period of 2024~2025. It is expected that in 2023, FPT will develop 7 new chip families. In early 2024, FPT Semiconductor will continue to design and produce IoT chips for smart device applications, as well as IoT chips for agriculture, forestry and seafood.
In such context, FPT suggests that the Government facilitate the development of human resources in Vietnam, especially semiconductor chip design resources. Vietnam also needs to establish a national center to assist the semiconductor industry in aiming towards resource development in the long term, thereby calling for large enterprises in the world to invest in plant construction, training, etc. for the industry.

Expressing his agreement with FPT Corporation, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh says, through the ups and downs, the fact that FPT selects and focuses on information technology, digital technology, software design and production, chip production is the right path, in line with the strengths of the Corporation, the trend of the times and the potential and advantages of the country, contributing to building an independent and self-reliant economy, associated with positive, deep, substantive and effective international integration.
The Government will continue to thoroughly concretize the Party’s guidelines and resolutions, improve the institutions, develop mechanisms and policies, promote decentralization, direct and administer the work of resources development, especially high-quality resources.
The Prime Minister once again emphasizes that “the Government will focus on the development of human resources to draw investment, transfer technologies in a way appropriate to the country’s conditions and circumstances, meeting the needs of each region and field, thereby realizing development goals and aspirations of the country until 2030-2045″.
