Participating in “Innovative thinking – Transform yourself, transform digitally” talk session, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Minh, CEO of FPT IS, speaks of the role and importance of digital transformation. According to Mr. Minh, digital transformation has changed and will change the economy, companies, and supply chains, creating opportunities for companies at all levels, acting as a foundation for outstanding growth. Mr. Minh emphasizes that leading companies in Vietnam have been investing heavily in technologies and digital transformation, led by the banking and retail industry. “Vietnam is gradually transforming into an economy where no product is without “digital” element, no field is without digital transformation, while management and operation processes are also being set for complete digitalization”.
However, Mr. Minh also emphasizes that the rate of failure in digital transformation is remarkably high, around 76% even for large companies, if it lacks thinking and direction in investment and adoption of technologies. Mr. Minh says: “Digital transformation is a mandatory condition in Industry 4.0, so companies need to seize each and every opportunity to grow. Investing in digital transformation is investing in thinking and business development strategies, not just adoption of technology solutions. Companies need to be oriented and advised on the overall business picture to clearly plan goals for transformation, thereby choosing the right solution provider”.

The CEO of FPT IS has also presented on the 3H + 3S formula from FPT’s very own FPT Digital Kaizen methodology. Accordingly, in order to carry out the digital transformation “revolution”, companies need to start with “Heart” (inspiring and encouraging the entire organization about digital transformation), then “Head” (developing strategic plans), and finally “Hand” (starting to work on it). Many companies often go straight to solutions without taking the word “Heart” into fair consideration, which fails to “permeate” the spirit of digital transformation into the company and transformation then becomes a “must-do” instead of a “desire”. Business leaders need to convey inspiration and enthusiasm for change to each and every employee in the company, determining digital transformation as new chances, delivering growth for the company as well as better income and opportunities of promotion for the employees.

As for the word “Head”, Mr. Minh says, in the current volatile economic context, companies “cannot look too far into the future”, but that does not mean proper planning for digital transformation to determine desired goals can be overlooked. Finally, with the word “Hand”, it is necessary to first think big (Strategy), then start in a smart way (Start smart), and expand quickly (Scale fast). Particularly, selecting a way to start in a direction which can tackle painful problems but is easy enough to implement will quickly deliver results, increasing morale, as well as deciding the possibility of future expansion. The expansion also needs to be rapidly conducted so that the entire organization can benefit the most from digital transformation.
