FPT’s 80,013th employee in semiconductor sector: Affirming great opportunities for Vietnam’s youth
FPT Corporation recently welcomed its 80,000th employee, marking an important milestone in its goal of 1 million employees – 1 million digital transformation warriors – by 2035, including those in the semiconductor sector. This affirms FPT IS’s commitment to creating opportunities for young people in Vietnam in general and Da Nang in particular to study and work in the semiconductor field.
FPT Corporation’s 80,000th to 80,013th new hires will be working at its subsidiaries across various provinces and cities in Vietnam, as well as at its offices worldwide. These new hires come from diverse professional backgrounds, including Artificial Intelligence, Semiconductors, Education, Digital Content, and others. In particular, FPT IS welcomes Phan Tran Minh Uyen, a young man born in 1998, who has joined FPT Semiconductor as a research and development (R&D) specialist.
From FPT’s semiconductor dream to its 80,013th employee
Minh Uyen graduated from the Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology program at the University of Technical and Education under the University of Da Nang in 2022. During his school years, Uyen was very good at STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths), and aspired to pursue careers that apply these majors.
Sharing his thoughts, Uyen said: “In 2017-2018, Vietnam’s electronics industry made great strides as many large global enterprises and corporations invested in building factories in Vietnam. This significantly improved our country’s export ratio and increased the value chain. Recognizing the trends of the 4.0 technology revolution, where electronics would play a major role in people’s lives and the economy, I was determined to study this major at the University of Da Nang.”

However, the Covid-19 pandemic hit Danang, leading to the city’s continuous lockdown after Uyen’s graduation. Uyen decided to temporarily put his dream aside and joined the army. During his service, he continued to fuel his passion for electronics and semiconductors through printed documents he collected himself. After completing his service, Uyen returned to pursue his career and received numerous offers from leading technology companies. The young man decided to develop his passion by interning at FPT Semiconductor, one of the pioneering companies in semiconductor chip design in Vietnam and the cradle that have brought the “Make in Vietnam” chips to the global market.
Uyen expressed that becoming the 80,013th employee marked an important milestone to realizing his aspiration of creating “Make in Vietnam” products
Since joining FPT Semiconductor, Uyen has found that the company fulfills both his career orientation and cultural attachment. “Becoming the 80,013th employee at FPT and FPT IS is a great honor for me. This motivates my desire to create products made by Vietnamese people”, said Uyen.
FPT – A companion of Vietnamese youth to bring “Make in Vietnam” technology to the world
In his speech at the welcoming ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, FPT CEO, expressed: “FPT’s growth strategy focuses on AI, Semiconductor, Automobile, Digital, and Green sectors. Uyen and other young employees at FPT Semiconductor present the next generation to take on the Semiconductors, one of the key domains of FPT. I hope that Uyen’s story and aspiration will inspire many other young people to nurture the dream of bringing Vietnamese technology to the world. Congratulations to Uyen for joining and accompanying the development of the FPT IS and FPT family”.
FPT IS – A destination for young people passionate about technology in general and the semiconductor industry in particular
Vietnam currently holds significant advantages in designing and developing semiconductor chips, as its people have strong foundations in mathematics and natural sciences. Manpower for this industry is not hard to find but requires meticulous and detailed qualities. While chip design may not seem as a dynamic field by engineers in countries like South Korea and Japan, a large number of Vietnamese engineers have gained their success in this domain worldwide.
Human resources in Vietnam, especially in the Central region, possess the “quality” required for the semiconductor industry, which is perseverance, determination, tenacity, and creativity. As committed by Mr. Tran Dang Hoa, Chairman of FPT IS and Chairman of FPT Semiconductor, opportunities will be wide open for the young generation in the semiconductor sector who have strong foundations in Math, Physics, and Chemistry, and great ambition and aspiration, just like Uyen, the new employee at FPT Semiconductor. This help affirm that this young generation can create “The Next” for Vietnam and the world thanks to their capacity and intelligence.
Talking about development opportunities in the industry, Mr. Hoa said that, Vietnam in general and, Da Nang in particular, are betting on the growth of the semiconductor sector. Therefore, many preferential mechanism and policies for human resources have been introduced accordingly. Specifically, the implementation of Resolution No. 136/2024/QH15 of the Vietnamese National Assembly, concerning the organization of urban government and the piloting of a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang city, has opened up favorable policies for semiconductor companies and workforce, such as exemption of personal income tax for people working in the industry. For FPT, its goal is to have 10,000 semiconductor employees by 2030. The Corporation will focus on attracting and training resources at its R&D Center in Da Nang city, working with the city to achive the goal of becoming one of the three largest semiconductor centers in Vietnam, as committed in the strategic cooperation with the city’s Department of Information and Communications in August 2024.
With more than 30 years of establishment, FPT IS is currently a top technology company in Vietnam and the region, possessing experience in digital transformation for the backbone sector of the economy.
In order to develop its human resources, FPT IS has established a long-term training roadmap, offering opportunities for employees to participate in large projects with leading experts in the industry to gain practical experience. The company fosters a culture of “making products” or “start-up” for technology lovers. Especially, FPT IS has introduced policies for R&D projects and sales of “Made by FPT IS” products. In addition, the welfare policy has also been formulated with the company’s vision of accompanying every employee in every major milestone of their life, leaving “once-in-a-lifetime” cultural imprints on them.
Welcoming ceremony for the 80,013th employee of FPT Corporation and FPT IS
FPT IS is entering the 30th year of its establishment with the “Co-create the Next” set as its new slogan. Semiconductor chips, AI, green transformation, and “Made by FPT IS” products and services are creating opportunities for FPT IS to contribute to the change of Vietnam and the world, the change of each organization and enterprise, bringing value to millions of people. FPT IS will be the “destination” for generations of Vietnamese young people who are passionate about technology and semiconductors, and accompany them to design their own “Make in Vietnam – Made by FPT” products, which are considered the “brainchildren” of technology lovers, as well as the pride of the people and country of Vietnam.
