HURC1 partners with MB, MBV, and FPT to enhance digital utilities and passenger experience
On September 12, 2025, Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Company Limited Line 1 (HURC1) – the operator of Ho Chi Minh City’s Metro Line 1 – signed a cooperation agreement with partners including Military Commercial Joint Stock Bank (MB), Modern Bank of Vietnam Limited (MBV), and FPT Corporation (FPT). The partnership aims to integrate MB and MBV’s payment services into the HCMC Metro HURC application developed by FPT, thereby expanding digital utilities and enhancing passenger experiences on Metro Line 1.
Under the cooperation agreement, MB and Modern Bank of Vietnam (MBV) will provide and integrate payment solutions into the HCMC Metro HURC application. These include e-wallet payment solutions and related services, such as wallet registration, eKYC, linking, top-up, withdrawal, and payments – embedded directly into HURC1’s HCMC Metro HURC app. In addition, MB and MBV will also integrate other payment solutions through their gateway system.

As a key technology partner in this project, FPT is honored to continue supporting HURC1 by developing, configuring, and integrating the necessary technology to enable the payment solutions provided by MB and MBV. FPT will also lead the User Acceptance Testing (UAT), and coordinate training and pilot implementation activities to ensure the accurate and efficient rollout of these payment services.
Metro Line No. 1 officially commenced operations on December 22, 2024, marking a milestone for Vietnam’s transport sector in 2025. The project not only helps reduce traffic congestion, shorten travel times, and improve quality of life, but also serves as a symbol of a modern, smart city – where technology, finance, and passenger experience converge. Since its launch, Metro Line No. 1 has welcomed over 14 million passengers, averaging 45,000 trips per day, with peak days reaching up to 90,000-100,000 passengers, and has received overwhelmingly positive feedback.
A key factor behind this success is the metro’s comprehensive smart ticketing system, designed in line with global eTicketing standards in cities such as Singapore and London. Built on EMV OpenLoop technology, the system enables passengers to conveniently pay using a wide range of options – from bank cards and digital wallets to QR codes, and even the Vietnamese Citizen ID card. This rapid adoption reflects both the demand and adaptability of Vietnamese commuters to smart, cashless mobility solutions, laying the foundation for deeper integration of banking and e-wallet services within the HCMC Metro HURC app. Against this backdrop, the collaboration between HURC1, MB, and MBV represents another step forward in maximizing convenience and enhancing the digital passenger experience.
Mr. Le Minh Triet, Director of HURC1, speaks at the event
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Minh Triet, Director of HURC1, shared: “Currently, Metro Line 1 has deployed eight different payment methods, including contactless card tapping, payment via the HCMC Metro HURC app, and cash. With this new collaboration, HURC1 expects that the integration of e-wallets provided by MB and MBV will offer passengers new options and mark a breakthrough in public transport payment experiences. In Ho Chi Minh City – a dynamic metropolis that embraces innovation – this promises to unlock significant potential in meeting the growing demand for digital payments.”
Expressing his commitment, Mr. Vu Thanh Trung, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of MB and Chairman of the Members’ Council of Modern Bank of Vietnam (MBV), stated: “MB and MBV highly appreciate the modern payment model of Metro Line 1. With our pioneering experience in digital transformation, particularly in e-wallet development and the integration of over 1,200 APIs, MB and MBV are eager to join hands with HURC1 and FPT to shape new payment methods. Our goal is to deliver seamless and convenient experiences directly on a single smartphone, with the potential to scale across sectors such as urban transportation, healthcare, and beyond.”

With today’s partnership, FPT is committed to acting as the bridge between HURC1, MB, and MBV to ensure fast and efficient implementation, so that we will soon witness the first passengers purchasing tickets via MB and MBV’s services. FPT pledges to work hand-in-hand with its partners to elevate customer experience, develop new services not only in public transportation but also to pioneer innovative business models for the city and nationwide.”
