Enhancing Digital Capabilities for the Tax Sector: FPT and IBM Vietnam Organize In-Depth Seminar on AI
Recently, the seminar titled “AI Strategy and Data Security: Foundations for a Digital Government”, co-hosted by FPT IS Company Limited, FPT Corporation, and IBM Vietnam, took place with the participation of over 70 senior representatives from the General Department of Taxation – Ministry of Finance. The event provided a platform for in-depth discussions on trends, challenges, and solutions in applying artificial intelligence and ensuring data security, laying the groundwork for the sustainable development of a digital government. Speakers from FPT and IBM Vietnam shared expert insights and proposed practical solutions to help the government and organizations enhance their AI application capabilities in a secure and effective manner.

In his speech, sharing about the strategic orientation and key priorities, Mr. Vu Le Huy – Deputy Head of the Department of Technology, Digital Transformation and Automation – Department of Taxation affirmed that “The Tax sector must develop a centralized, synchronized, and advanced IT system to increase automation, reduce manual work for tax officials, and allow them to focus more on supervision, support, and engagement. The rapid evolution of new technologies presents significant challenges. Therefore, in the context of increasingly developing technology, the requirements of the Tax sector are increasing and and must be met swiftly.”

In response, Mr. Tran Phong Lam, Director of Government Sector at FPT IS, FPT Corporation, shared that the remarkable achievements of the Tax sector today have been greatly supported by information technology and digital transformation. He expressed his hope to continue accompanying and closely collaborating with the Tax sector in general, and with the Department of Taxation – Ministry of Finance in particular, in promoting the application of modern technologies and gradually developing a comprehensive digital ecosystem, thereby contributing to building a transparent, efficient, and sustainable public finance system.

The common goal of the current strategy is to develop Vietnam’s tax sector into a modern, streamlined, efficient, and sustainable organization. Tax, fee, and charge administration should be unified, transparent, specialized, and professional, based on a risk management approach. At the same time, the strategy promotes IT application, simplification of administrative procedures, and reduced compliance costs for individuals and businesses.Asoc. AI can be applied to optimize tax processes and management by automating and standardizing processes such as tax declaration, payment and refund, helping to reduce administrative procedures. At the same time, AI supports monitoring, enhancing transparency, detecting and handling tax fraud effectively. “Currently, the challenge for applying AI in managing the activities of the Tax Department is to plan an AI strategy and data for smart applications,” Mr. Hai added.

Mr. Hien shared IBM’s vision and direction for AI development in the coming years, focusing on areas such as generative AI, trustworthy AI and AI applied in organizations and businesses. He emphasized that IBM is committed to providing advanced AI solutions, helping organizations optimize operations, enhance competitiveness and create sustainable value.
In the context of comprehensive digital transformation, when 90% of organizations are facing this challenge, the demand for flexible storage infrastructure, smart data management and high security becomes urgent. This is further emphasized when the Tax sector, according to Decision 804/QD-TCT/2024, is researching and implementing AI to improve management efficiency, support taxpayers and increase staff productivity. Mr. Nguyen Viet Dong, Storage Solution Consultant of IBM Vietnam, introduced the “Global Data Foundation Data Infrastructure Solution” with IBM Storage Scale, providing flexible deployment models from low-cost commercial servers to cloud services and on-premises Storage Scale System (SSS) integrated solutions, helping to separate data management software from hardware, bringing flexibility and cost savings. At the same time, data security is also a top priority, as 70% of organizations have difficulty securing data across multiple cloud and on-premises environments, creating serious security vulnerabilities. To address this issue, Mr. Nguyen Manh Linh, Data Security Solution Consultant of IBM Vietnam, introduced the IBM Security Guardium Data Protection solution, which helps organizations effectively protect sensitive data in multi-cloud and on-premises environments, through the combination of data discovery, vulnerability scanning, threat detection and compliance support.

In the presentation on IT infrastructure optimization, Mr. Tran Khanh Dung – TLS Group Consultant, IBM Vietnam said, “Only 25% of senior managers strongly agree that their organization’s IT infrastructure can support the scale of AI across the enterprise. Therefore, IBM TLS solution, a technology lifecycle service, was created to serve customers, providing reliability by optimizing business value and ensuring the organization’s IT environment is always stable.
The seminar once again affirmed the trend of applying AI to improve the capacity of the Tax industry.
