FPT partners with Toshiba Information Systems to provide semiconductor workforce
On the afternoon of December 10th in Tokyo, Japan, FPT Semiconductor, a member of FPT Corporation, officially signed a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Toshiba Information Systems (TJ) for the next 10 years. This marks an important milestone in addressing the semiconductor workforce shortage in Japan.
FPT and Toshiba Information Systems expand collaboration across multiple areas in the semiconductor industry
Collaboration to Address Semiconductor Workforce Shortage
Building on 10 years of successful semiconductor workforce supply collaboration, FPT will continue to send engineers to Japan under the newly signed Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). Over the next five years, the number of engineers will increase nearly sixfold compared to the current figure.
The key goal of the MOU between FPT and Toshiba Information Systems is to develop human resources, create opportunities for Vietnamese engineers, and foster deeper collaboration between the two countries in the high-tech sector.
This partnership not only focuses on human resource development but also expands into new areas such as IC testing, reliability testing, fault analysis, and IC manufacturing, to meet the growing demands of the rapidly expanding semiconductor industry.
In addition, educational collaboration will be a top priority. Both parties will work with FPT’s educational units to design and develop specialized training programs. Graduates from these programs will be given priority for employment opportunities at Toshiba Information Systems (TJ)

Annually, FPT and Toshiba Information Systems will organize workshops and knowledge-sharing sessions with experts from both companies, aimed at training, seminars, and technical discussions. The involvement of engineers and specialists from both sides will not only enhance professional skills but also foster creativity and innovation in the semiconductor industry.
Offshore development is also a key component of the expansion strategy for both companies. The Offshore Development Center (ODC) in Vietnam will be managed and operated by Toshiba at FPT facilities, creating significant opportunities to increase the presence of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry in the global market.
Strengthening Educational Cooperation to Build a High-Quality Semiconductor Engineering Workforce for Vietnam and Japan
Enhancing Vietnam’s Position in the Global Semiconductor Industry
The semiconductor industry is currently considered the “lifeblood” of the digital economy, playing a critical role in various sectors such as automotive manufacturing, medical devices, consumer electronics, and AI technology. However, the rapid growth of the industry has also led Japan to face a shortage of semiconductor professionals.
In this context, Vietnam, with its strategy of developing high-quality human resources, has become a reliable hub for supplying semiconductor talent to global technology corporations, particularly FPT, through its strategic collaboration with Toshiba Information Systems.
This partnership has also facilitated the transfer of technology and knowledge between Japanese and Vietnamese experts. This has laid a solid foundation for the development of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam, while also contributing to establishing Vietnam as a reputable semiconductor talent hub in the region.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr. Trần Đăng Hòa, Chairman of FPT IS and FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation, emphasized that this cooperation agreement not only marks the successful 10-year journey between FPT and Toshiba Information Systems, but also opens up significant opportunities for Vietnam to assert its position in the global semiconductor value chain. Mr. Trần Đăng Hòa further mentioned that this partnership not only helps address the semiconductor talent shortage in Japan but also sets a solid foundation for Vietnam’s semiconductor industry to grow significantly in the coming years.

The representative from Toshiba Information Systems expressed high regard for the capabilities of FPT engineers, who have played a significant role in Toshiba’s strategic projects over the past decade. Additionally, TJ’s leadership expressed expectations for deepening cooperation with FPT to build a high-quality semiconductor engineering team, while also expanding activities into new areas such as IC testing, fault analysis, reliability testing, microchip production, and specialized training. This is seen as an important step in elevating the positions of both partners in the global semiconductor industry.
The 10th anniversary celebration of the partnership and the MOU signing between FPT and Toshiba Information Systems not only marks a decade of success but also opens new opportunities for the semiconductor industry in Vietnam. It stands as clear evidence of Vietnam’s capabilities and potential in the global semiconductor industry.
The collaboration between FPT and TJ elevates the positions of both parties in the global semiconductor industry.
