Violympic National Round draws more than 100,000 students in the 2023-2024 academic year
The Violympic National Round for the 2023 – 2024 school year took place on April 12 and April 13 with the participation of 118,302 candidates from 55 provinces/cities nationwide, of which Hanoi, Nam Dinh, Ninh Binh, Hai Duong, Phu Tho, Hai Phong, Ha Nam, Vung Tau, Kien Giang, Dak Nong, and Dak Lak have been the leaders in terms of student participation rate over the years.
The 2023 – 2024 school year witnessed a record number of Violympic exam boards, totaling over 900 across the country. To qualify for the National Round, candidates had to complete nine prior rounds, including six self-training rounds and three rounds at school, district, and provincial levels.
This year, the exam expanded not only the content but also the number of grades competing. In the 2023 – 2024 Violympic National Round, specific expansions included Mathematics (Vietnamese version) for grades 2 to 10, Mathematics (English version) for grades 4,5,6, and 8, Vietnamese language for grades 2 to 5, History for grades 4 & 5, and Natural Sciences for grade 9.
This is the first time History was included for grades 4 and 5 in the National Round. With a fresh and dynamic approach, Violympic successfully attracted more than 100,000 participants, including those at self-training rounds, and at school-district-provincial levels, and nearly 10,000 students competing in the History exam at the National Round.

The inclusion of History in the National Round signifies that online exams are evolving to encompass a broader range of knowledge, aligning closely with the policies and decisions of the Ministry of Education and Training. Moreover, it offers a more engaging approach to history for the younger generation and fosters a love for history among students from an early age.
The National Round was conducted entirely online. Prior to the exam, all candidates gathered at pre-registered exam clusters, where the Organizer issued a unique exam code for each grade level, which expired 10 minutes after the exam started.
A representative of the Violympic organization stated, “To ensure fairness and transparency for the competition, we have implemented new algorithms and technology to detect fraud, while also enhancing online monitoring, and audio & video recording at all exam sites nationwide.”
The exams were conducted under online monitoring, and audio & video recording by the Organizer.
Students winning the Violympic National Round will be awarded Certificates and Gold, Silver, or Bronze medals for each subject and grade. Additionally, the top 20 excellent students in each grade will receive rewards in kind such as laptops, tablets, and watches with a total value of nearly VND 1 billion.
In the 2020 – 2021 school year, Violympic recorded nearly 17,000 candidates in the National Round, which almost quadrupled to 65,000 candidates by 2021-2022. This upward trend culminated in more than 100,000 candidates in the last two years. With ongoing innovations in exam format, diverse exam content, and alignment with the school curriculum and decisions of the Ministry of Education and Training, this online playground is expected to remain a focal point for learning, supported by a large number of teachers, parents, and millions of students nationwide.
