As credit demand grows rapidly while risk-control pressures intensify, banks are no longer competing solely on disbursement speed but on their ability to make smarter, faster, and more data-driven credit decisions. Comprehensive perspectives and practical solutions to this challenge were shared at the “Nucleus Synapse Vietnam 2026” Conference, themed “AI in Lending: From Potential to Performance in Vietnam,” co-organized by Nucleus Software and FPT. The event opened new avenues of cooperation to improve lending efficiency in Vietnam, contributing to the banking sector’s digital transformation and the country’s economic growth.

AI Is Changing the Game in Lending

The “Nucleus Synapse Vietnam 2026” conference was organized by Nucleus Software – a pioneer in banking technology with four decades of innovation and the trust of more than 200 financial institutions across 50+ countries, joining forces with FPT Corporation – one of Vietnam’s leading technology organisations. The event drew more than 100 senior leaders from the country’s banking, finance, and technology ecosystem.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Hoang Minh Tien, Deputy director of the Information Technology Department under the State Bank of Vietnam, said digital transformation has become a key driver in improving performance, competitiveness, and growth for Vietnam’s economy. Within this, AI is regarded as one of the strategic technologies that will shape national competitiveness in the coming period.

The banking sector has consistently led in technology innovation, particularly with the launch of the banking sector’s digital transformation strategy through 2030, which sets specific targets for technology adoption in banking operations, including lending. These targets include having 100% of banks apply advanced technologies such as AI and Big Data to demand analysis, customer engagement, risk management, and new product development, and having 50% of banks fully digitize retail lending processes for individual customers. He commended the conference and expressed hope it would generate initiatives to help domestic credit institutions apply AI effectively, adding that the IT Department would continue to refine the legal framework to enable the banking sector to adopt new technologies proactively and under proper oversight.

The conference also featured two in-depth panel discussions with leaders from Nucleus Software, FPT, MB, EY Vietnam, and AWS Vietnam, along with representatives from various banks. Speakers highlighted the challenges of moving AI from pilot stage to real-world operation, including fragmented data, cybersecurity, and AI governance. According to the panelists, a reliable data foundation and effective data governance are prerequisites for banks to successfully harness AI. They also noted that closer coordination among banks, regulators, and technology partners will drive the shift toward a forecast-based operating model.
