FPT partners with Vietnam National Multi-Project Wafer Coordination Center to advance the “Make in Vietnam” semiconductor ecosystem

Recently, the Ministry of Science and Technology officially launched the Vietnam National Multi-Project Wafer Coordination Center (VNMPW/CC). During the ceremony, VNMPW/CC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with FPT Corporation, marking an important milestone in strengthening Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem and enhancing the country’s capabilities in semiconductor research, prototyping, and manufacturing. The partnership represents a significant step toward realizing the vision of mastering the “Make in Vietnam” semiconductor value chain, in line with Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW.

The Vietnam National Multi-Project Wafer Coordination Center (VNMPW/CC) is a public service institution under the Authority of Information Technology Industry, Ministry of Science and Technology. Established to address one of Vietnam’s key bottlenecks in semiconductor prototyping, the Center serves as a bridge connecting chip design, prototype fabrication, testing, validation, and commercialization.

Its mission includes coordinating semiconductor research and design projects from universities, research institutes, enterprises, and startups; connecting domestic and international wafer fabrication plants, packaging, and testing partners; and supporting prototype production through the Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) model. This approach helps reduce production costs, shorten development cycles, validate chip designs more efficiently, and accelerate the commercialization of Make in Vietnam semiconductor products.

The establishment of VNMPW/CC marks a major milestone in implementing Vietnam’s Semiconductor Industry Development Strategy to 2030 with a Vision to 2050, positioning Vietnam among the few Southeast Asian countries with a national-level semiconductor prototyping infrastructure.

VNMPW/CC and FPT sign a Memorandum of Understanding

During the launch ceremony, VNMPW/CC signed cooperation agreements with 19 domestic and international partners, including FPT Corporation. Under the MoU, the two parties will collaborate across several strategic areas to strengthen Vietnam’s semiconductor research, design, and prototype manufacturing capabilities.

First, VNMPW/CC and FPT will jointly conduct research and develop strategic application-specific semiconductor chips.

Second, the Center will support FPT in tape-out, packaging, and testing activities for semiconductor products independently designed by FPT, in accordance with the Center’s production capabilities and implementation plans.

Third, FPT will leverage its global network to connect VNMPW/CC with leading semiconductor foundries, Multi-Project Wafer (MPW) service providers, and Outsourced Semiconductor Assembly and Test (OSAT) partners in Vietnam and internationally to facilitate manufacturing orders for Vietnamese chip designs.

Finally, FPT will work alongside VNMPW/CC to expand international collaboration by introducing and connecting the Center with semiconductor enterprises, research organizations, industry associations, universities, R&D centers, and strategic partners across the global semiconductor ecosystem.

VNMPW/CC announces the establishment of its Semiconductor Advisory Board

As part of the event, VNMPW/CC also announced the establishment of its Semiconductor Advisory Board. FPT representatives, together with distinguished experts from leading technology companies, universities, and research institutes in Vietnam and abroad, will provide strategic guidance and deep technical expertise to support the Center as well as domestic universities, research institutions, and enterprises.

At the accompanying exhibition, FPT showcased its Power IC, a flagship product within the Make in Vietnam – Made by FPT semiconductor ecosystem. The chip has successfully completed comprehensive evaluations covering electrical performance, operational stability, load capacity, and reliability testing in accordance with JEDEC standards. It also complies with chemSHERPA chemical substance reporting requirements and has already been successfully exported to Japan as a replacement for existing semiconductor products.

FPT also introduced its FPT Access Control (FAS) solutions, including: FAS02, an access control device that combines facial recognition technology with electronic identity verification using Vietnamese citizen ID cards, e-passports, and NFC-enabled identity cards; FAS06, a mobile identity verification device designed for on-site authentication, capable of reading and verifying data from chip-based citizen ID cards, electronic passports (e-Passports), and other digital identity documents.

With more than 10 years of investment in Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, FPT has established a comprehensive semiconductor ecosystem spanning chip design, packaging, testing, and talent development. The corporation is developing key semiconductor products, including Power ICs and Power Management ICs (PMICs), while actively investing in next-generation AI-on-Edge System-on-Chip (SoC) technologies.

In parallel, FPT is expanding its semiconductor workforce development initiatives, targeting the training of 10,000 semiconductor engineers by 2030 through a multi-tiered education ecosystem and international partnerships. The corporation has established the FPT High-Tech & Semiconductor Center in Da Nang and the Vietnam Semiconductor Incubation & Innovation Center (V.S.I.C) in Hanoi.

A major milestone was achieved in December 2025, when FPT became the first Vietnamese enterprise to commercially export semiconductor chips to Japan, reinforcing Vietnam’s position within the global semiconductor value chain.

In early 2026, FPT established the FPT Advanced Semiconductor Testing and Packaging Factory, further strengthening the country’s semiconductor supply chain and contributing to Vietnam’s strategic objectives of mastering core and sovereign technologies under Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, Decision No. 1131/QD-TTg, and Decision No. 1018/QD-TTg, while enabling deeper participation in the global semiconductor supply chain.

Beyond semiconductors, FPT is making long-term strategic investments in five core technology domains: Quantum AI, Cybersecurity, Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), Data Technologies, and Railway Technologies. These investments reflect FPT’s commitment to mastering critical technologies, developing high-quality talent, and strengthening Vietnam’s technological sovereignty.
