VATM desires to collaborate with FPT for enhancing air traffic management security and safety through cutting-edge technologies
Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM) and FPT Corporation recently co-hosted a conference on digital transformation. The event aimed to explore cutting-edge technology solutions to support air traffic management.
During the conference, both companies discussed strategies to ensure safe and efficient air traffic management while working toward sustainable development, especially as the aviation industry faces with significant challenges.
Conference on digital transformation between Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation and FPT Corporation.
Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation, an enterprise under the Ministry of Transport, has been entrusted by the Party and the State with the mission of managing air traffic across Vietnam’s sovereign airspace, territorial waters, airports, and airfields. The corporation provides air-traffic-related services over nearly 1.2 million square kilometers, across 30 provinces and cities of the country, playing a critical role in air traffic within the East Sea region.
According to Mr. Nguyen Cong Long, Director General of VATM, the corporation’s key focus areas include: Air traffic management, Aviation news dissemination, Communications, navigation and surveillance, Search and rescue, and Aerometeorology. However, the core mission entrusted by the Party and State remains flight operations, particularly in communications, navigation, and surveillance (CNS). Thus, VATM always focuses on continuous improvement and digital transformation in CNS activities to boost operational efficiency while ensuring absolute information security and safety.
Currently, aviation is one of the industries that adopts the most advanced and cutting-edge technologies, and has been at the forefront of digital transformation since the onset of the digital revolution. However, the rapid growth in commercial flights is presenting significant challenges for air traffic management organizations, particularly in maintaining aviation security and safety. On July 18, 2024, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) disclosed that global airlines’ passenger traffic is projected to double over the next two decades from 4.3 billion passengers last year, with the Asia-Pacific market expected to lead this growth.
In this context, pursuing digital transformation is no longer optional but essential for enhancing safety and efficiency standards. This is particularly crucial for leading organizations like the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), which has been entrusted with special political missions and responsibilities for managing and overseeing the national air traffic.
Understanding specific challenges of the industry and VATM’s desire to enhance information security and safety through digital transformation, Mr. Nguyen Van Khoa, Chief Executive Officer of FPT Corporation, stated, “VATM operates in a highly specialized field, with not only significant technical expertise but also a crucial political mission. From a corporate governance perspective, FPT is well-positioned to partner with VATM in implementing digital transformation to enhance business operations, ensuring the highest levels of operational safety and information security.”
Mr. Khoa added, “VATM and FPT share a common focus on early integration, which necessitates meeting global standards and requirements. FPT is eager to deepen its understanding and collaborate closely with VATM to drive digital transformation. Our goal is to tackle complex industry challenges, enhance information security, cultivate a digital culture and improve digital awareness among employees. This includes adopting AI solutions to boost productivity and reduce resource strain, in addition to operational coordination systems, paperless offices, IoT for monitoring, and data storage systems. By leveraging FPT’s experience in delivering solutions for aviation and logistics, as well as its track record in successful digital transformation for global customers, alongside VATM’s expertise and industry knowledge, the two organizations can collaboratively develop new solutions and create additional value.

Mr. Le Hoang Minh, Chairman of VATM’s Members’ Council, agreed with FPT’s CEO and expressed his hope that FPT and VATM will work together on training initiatives to enhance technological capabilities. He also anticipates collaboration with a team of experts to develop solutions for improving governance, security, and safety. “Currently, our air traffic management utilizes various cutting-edge technologies, including flight management systems and transceivers. However, VATM still relies on foreign technology providers. We hope FPT can assist in researching and developing technology solutions and devices to support or even replace these foreign technologies with resources from Vietnamese companies,” Mr. Minh expected.
Additionally, Mr. Ho Sy Tung, Deputy Director General of VATM, acknowledged FPT’s experience and technological expertise while expressing a key concern of VATM’s Board of Directors: “The greatest challenge in digital transformation lies with the people, as the core of digital transformation is about individuals using and benefiting from technology in their work. Ensuring all employees have a solid understanding and awareness of digital transformation has always been our concern. We have even set aside a training fund for this purpose. We hope that alongside implementing specific technological initiatives, FPT IS can assist VATM in providing comprehensive and practical digital transformation training for the entire corporation.”
During the meeting, FPT’s experts shared insights on the company’s methodology, consulting experience, digital transformation implementation, along with its ecosystem of products and solutions. Mr. Le Hung Cuong, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of FPT Digital, provided a detailed presentation on the FPT Digital Kaizen methodology of digital transformation, illustrating how digital transformation can drive significant improvements in airports, and how IT architecture can help businesses effectively address challenges related to applications and IT infrastructure. Additionally, Mr. Cuong cautioned against the “digital transformation trap,” where companies implement isolated applications without fundamentally changing their mindset, business models, or operations. The FPT Digital Kaizen methodology, grounded in both theory and practice, is designed to effectively support businesses in building a digital transformation roadmap, comprehensively addressing pressing challenges through digital initiatives. He stressed that success ultimately hinges on human resources and the cultivation of a digital culture within the organization.

FPT’s outstanding technology products and solutions, suitable for VATM’s operational needs, were also introduced by Mr. Vu Minh Quang, Deputy Director of Enterprise Solution Consulting at FPT IS. These solutions can help VATM optimize its operations, including Human Resources and Payroll Management System (FPT.iHRP), Electronic Invoice Solution (FPT.eInvoice), Process Digitalization and Automatic Assignment Solution (FPT SPro), or cloud computing platform, offering flexible infrastructure services and data management (FPT Cloud), etc.
Following the conference, both sides outlined specific activities for further exchange and collaboration, with the shared goal of helping VATM achieve its critical missions and realize its sustainable development objectives.
