FPT participates in the Vietnam – Japan semiconductor cooperation event, sharing its strategic role in the industry
On February 19, 2025, the National Innovation Center (NIC), the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, and FPT Corporation jointly organized the “Vietnam – Japan Semiconductor Cooperation Networking Program.” The event took place as part of the working trip of the “Kyushu Semiconductor Workforce Development Consortium,” with the participation of leading experts and businesses in the semiconductor industry from both countries.
The “Vietnam – Japan Semiconductor Cooperation Networking Program” was organized by NIC, the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, and FPT.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Vu Quoc Huy – Director of NIC emphasized that Vietnam is facing a crucial opportunity to integrate more deeply into the global semiconductor value chain. “Today’s program marks an important step in realizing the commitment to cooperation between the two countries in this strategic technology sector,” Mr. Huy stated.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang, FPT Corporation, affirmed that the corporation will continue to expand cooperation and promote innovation to enhance Vietnam’s position on the global semiconductor map.
As part of the program, Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang – General Director of FPT Semiconductor, FPT Corporation, delivered a key presentation titled “Japan – Vietnam: Natural Allies in the Semiconductor Industry.”. The presentation focused on three main aspects: The potential and opportunities of Vietnam’s semiconductor industry; FPT’s role in promoting the semiconductor ecosystem; Strategic cooperation with Japan for sustainable development; particularly emphasizing FPT’s role in connecting and driving the growth of the semiconductor industry in Vietnam.
Mr. Nguyen Vinh Quang highlighted that the Vietnam-Japan strategic partnership is a natural alliance in the semiconductor sector and introduced an initiative to establish two alliances to realize and strengthen this natural alliance:
“The first alliance is the Education Alliance, focusing on promoting the training of high-quality semiconductor personnel for both countries. FPT is honored to collaborate with the Vietnamese government to realize the goal of training 50,000 high-quality semiconductor engineers by 2030, through strong initiatives such as opening Co-Innovation Spaces in Hanoi and Da Nang, establishing the Semiconductor Microelectronics Faculty at FPT University & enrolling 1,000 students in the first year.
The second alliance is the Production Chain Alliance to ensure an uninterrupted supply chain while developing technology and gradually integrating into the semiconductor value chain for both Vietnam and Japan. We believe that with the support of Kyushu’s authorities – Japan’s ‘Silicon Island,’ this alliance will drive Vietnam’s semiconductor industry, aiming to complete the chip packaging and testing process within Vietnam and usher in a new era of cooperation between Vietnam and Japan in high-tech fields”.
Vietnam and Japan are natural allies in the semiconductor industry.
Mr. Quang shared that Japan is not only a leading powerhouse in the semiconductor industry but also a strategic partner that can help Vietnam enhance its capabilities in this field. He emphasized: “Vietnam has great potential to develop the semiconductor industry, with a young and dynamic team of engineers. However, to truly make breakthroughs, we need close cooperation with countries that have advanced semiconductor industries, such as Japan.”
FPT currently plays a pioneering role in developing Vietnam’s semiconductor ecosystem. Mr. Quang stated that the company is not only focusing on chip design but is also actively expanding partnerships with international partners, especially Japan, in areas such as workforce training, research and development (R&D), and semiconductor manufacturing projects to meet both domestic and international demands.
Amid the challenges of the global semiconductor industry, including supply chain disruptions and technological competition, Vietnam and Japan have an opportunity to deepen cooperation to ensure stability and sustainable development in the regional semiconductor value chain. Mr. Quang emphasized that support from Japanese businesses and organizations will help Vietnam quickly enhance its capabilities and gradually establish a robust semiconductor industry.
Notably, Japan is currently increasing investments in semiconductor manufacturing centers in Kyushu and Hokkaido, creating many opportunities for collaboration with Vietnamese enterprises. This not only helps Vietnam integrate more deeply into the global supply chain but also lays the foundation for the long-term development of this strategic industry.
With a long-term vision, FPT is committed to continuing to expand cooperation, promote innovation, and contribute to elevating Vietnam’s position on the global semiconductor map. “We believe that with the support of strategic partners like Japan, Vietnam’s semiconductor industry will make strong advancements, not only contributing to economic development but also positioning Vietnam as a key link in the global semiconductor value chain,” Mr. Quang affirmed.
